the next 3 minutes.

For the life of me, I don’t know why companies like Netgear make things so complicated, but I’ll show you what you really need to do to login to your router and get it configured so everyone in your home can use the Internet and not be worried by constant passphrase requests or other connectivity issues.

Netgear Router Login Videos

The Carolina CCNS Team has a video which I think is not only a little bit funny (computer nerd humor), but it actually shows you the normal Netgear router login! Amazing, and ya, kinda useful.

They show you how to do your Netgear router login using the routerlogin.com website (a Netgear hack, but it works)…try it, because most people succeed with their Netgear router login using this “standard” login procedure (a weird way, in my opinion).

If you don’t like going to routerlogin.com or routerlogin.net, then navigate to the c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc directory and edit the “hosts” file. You should see an entry that looks like 192.168.0.1 ww.routerlogin.net (or .com)

Simply delete that line, save the hosts file and then reboot your computer. Then go to http://192.168.0.1 and login with the username ‘admin’ and password ‘password’.

Network Magic has a video showing you how to setup your Netgear Router using two ethernet cables (one to your computer, one to your Internet connection).

When they say port #1, it means the leftmost ethernet port on the back of the Netgear router when looking at the router from the back. Be sure to use the cable that comes with your Netgear router and use it to connect the Netgear router to your
cable modem or ADSL/DSL modem using the right-most port on the back of the Netgear box when looking at it from the back.

This is important, because the wires in this cable are flipped (reversed) and it won’t work if you use it to connect the Netgear router to your computer – go figure, but computer guys think there is a difference between computers and router equipment.

Important Netgear Router Login Note

When they mention unplugging your ADSL or Cable modem for 10 minutes, that’s because the service provider’s equipment can remember connection settings for 5 minutes or more, and to get it to forget all the settings it had before, you need to unplug it from the power supply for at least 10 minutes.

John Fairest has a video showing you how he logs into a GD834G and then checks the status and then configures the Netgear router with a new username/password and security settings – watch it if you still need to login to your Netgear router:

If you follow all the instructions here and still have trouble getting your Netgear router login to work, then be sure to tell us what’s going on down below, and we’ll quickly update the info here to get you up and running.
